“SAAPF will promote the integrity of the farrier industry by strengthening the knowledge and skills of its members through continuing education and support at the state, national and international levels while improving overall equine health through collaboration with other industry professionals.” It seems a fundamental element of any industry to have an organisation that sets the benchmark and provides a way in which farriers and aspiring farriers may learn and improve their skills as well as achieving a recognised accreditation. In addition to providing and promoting education it is hoped to become an extremely valuable resource for farriers. “No foot no horse” is an apt saying and the SAAPF is an advocate for all horses having the right to the best possible hoof care. All horses have a fundamental right to be sound and have their feet regularly maintained. By providing a platform for discussion, support and tools for furthering education the SAAPF hope to improve the service provided to the horse.
